7 Months Old Today

This picture is so sad, but that's just the kind of day it's been.

Dear Calvin,

Another month has come and gone, and this has been an eventful one for you. You've learned and experienced so many new things.
  • You took your first flight this month and it was a long one. We had discussed drugging you like so many people suggest because 5 hours is a long time for such a little guy, but we didn't and you were amazing. People even stopped us to comment on how well behaved you were. You are such a social baby and you manage to engage everyone around you. You jabber and smile and coo and wave.
  • You have learned to wave. I think you learned from Grandpa Boone because he would wave as he talked to you. You watched him closely to see how he did it, and then one day you just started to wave with both hands at the same time, twirling your tiny wrists.
  • You love the mirror. Anytime you catch a glimpse of yourself you can't stop giggling.
  • You have learned to stand and walk while holding onto something. You become stronger and more confident each day. We are still waiting for you to crawl, but you can roll everywhere you need to go.
  • We took you to the pool for the first time this week. You chuckled every time you splashed water, and tried to lunge off on your own - eager to swim for yourself.
If we're all honest, you started out as kind of a cranky baby. You had me worried for a couple of months, but you have since developed the sweetest disposition. You love to laugh and talk. You love to smile and interact. I could never have imagined how much I would love you, and how happy being your mom could make me.

The only frustration I have is that I wish I could capture everything. You change every day, and there is just no way to remember all of the little nuances. You have a funny tongue flick when you are concentrating, you have huge bright eyes that take everything in, you will sit for long minutes and growl at yourself and anyone who will listen, and you softly pat the back of anyone who is holding you. Calvin, you are a baby to love.

We are so happy that seven months ago today you came to live in our home.

Love,

Mom
