Yesterday morning we went to see Grandma and Grandpa Nelson, intending to stay for a few hours so they could play with Calvin. For some reason traffic was horrible and it took us 3 hours to get there with Calvin screaming most of it, so we decided not to subject him to the car trip again the same day. Sunday morning came and went and we were having so much fun that we didn't get out of there until this afternoon. We ate way too much (darn Hazel and her incredibly moist chocolate cake with chocolate frosting), played in the pool, and Andy and I were able to go to a movie while Calvin stayed with his grandparents.
They have this old theater in the middle of town with all of the charm of 40 years ago. We saw Wall-E (cute and depressing, all at the same time), ate popcorn and candy, and made out like teenagers. For two hours it felt like we had no child and no responsibility. The best part though, was at the end when we walked outside, and there was Calvin in his big red wagon waiting for us. His grandparents had brought him to see us. I know we were only away for a couple of hours, but I was beyond excited to see his little face. We all walked home together in the hot summer night.
We didn't take our camera, so these pictures are all compliments of Grandpa. Here are some of the highlights:
